At 1:54 a.m. EDT (0554 UTC) on Sept. 13, the VIIRS instrument aboard NASA-NOAA's Suomi NPP satellite looked at Tropical Storm Isaac in infrared light. VIIRS found coldest cloud top temperatures off-center as cold as or colder than 70 degrees (red) Fahrenheit (minus 56.6 degrees Celsius).
