Researchers report that mice deficient in tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) exhibited greater loss of sensorimotor and spatial cognitive functions and greater white matter damage following traumatic brain injury (TBI) than control mice; administering tPA to deficient mice following TBI enhanced neurological function without an increase in intracranial bleeding, suggesting a role for tPA in recovery from TBI.
